On Wednesday 26th March, Cancer52 hosted the Big Cancer52 Conversation in Manchester, marking the fifth in the series.
Holding the event in Manchester enabled us to tap into local expertise from Greater Manchester and beyond. Bringing together experts from the charity and healthcare sectors, the focus was on sharing best practices, exchange ideas and exploring collaborations to tackle health inequalities.
Ali Jones from Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance, in conversation with Chris Walden shared pioneering approaches and valuable lessons that can be applied more broadly.
Our panel discussion featured members, Tamara Kahn, Oracle Head and Neck Cancer UK, Alastair Richards, North West Cancer Research, and Dr Oladejo Olaleye, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The conversation focused on collaborative efforts to reduce health inequalities.
We also explored the importance of involving people with lived experience in service design and policy, with insights from members Gizelle Madurai, Myeloma UK and Dr Stewart Manning, Yorkshire Cancer Community.
Hannah Stirzaker from 10GM highlighted the crucial role of community organizations in tackling cancer inequalities through grassroots initiatives.
The event concluded with reflections on key takeaways and next steps to turn discussions into actionable strategies for addressing health inequalities among rare and less common cancers.
Thank you to all speakers and participants for an engaging and informative day!
